Terrance Barkan CAE - Chief Strategist
Terrance Barkan CAE has been a senior international association manager since 1991. Early in his association management career, he served as the Executive Director for international trade and professional societies based in Europe. Later, as the founder and CEO of Association Global Services, Mr. Barkan was the senior advisor and consultant on a global basis for AGS clients and staff.
(AGS was the very first non-US headquartered association management firm to achieve the Charter Accredited status from the AMC Institute in 2000.)
In January 2009, Mr. Barkan founded Globalization Strategies (GLOBALSTRAT), a specialized consulting practice that uses a solid process management approach to developing tailored international strategic plans for associations.
GLOBALSTRAT provides independent, expert advice for associations on how to develop their international activities. This includes how to build internal staff capacity and capabilities to manage their global growth strategies.
As a Certified Association Executive (CAE), Mr. Barkan has been recognized as a Global Thought Leader on association management, is the author of numerous articles on international association management issues including several White Papers and articles that have been published by the American Society of Association Executives and the European Society of Association Executives. He is also a former Chair of the ASAE International Section Council.
His international business experience has taken him to more than 55 countries around the world on association development projects on 6 continents. He has also served as a special advisor to the Chinese Federation of Industrial Economics in Beijing, China, an umbrella group that includes most of the major Chinese trade associations.
He brings an entrepreneurial approach to growing clients with a specialization on developing existing and new international markets.
